Fantastic poster design from The Partners . This is such a perfectly simple idea, executed incredibly well.
“The Richard House Children’s Hospice needed a promotional poster for their five-a-side football fundraising event. The solution lay in the markings of a five-a-side football pitch. Seen from one specific view-point, the white markings create a distinct number five.”

Starbucks the new logo. Its interesting to see they’ve dropped not only the name but the “coffee” bit. It shows that they’re looking beyond being just a coffee brand. In recent years Starbucks has introduced selling papers, music and more food to their chains.
The new logo gives them the flexibility to create not only a new identity but a new type of Starbucks.
Research for my second minor led me to this. A beautiful project from Landor Associates for Great Ormond Street Hospital, they have created two wayfinding systems, one colour-coded and the other based around distinctive animal characters.
The visuals set out to distract and entertain the patients as Carl Halksworth, design dirctor at Landor explains; “we started to talk to the team at GOSH about the way distraction / distraction therapy - is a key part of the therapeutic environment. The thinking is, if you’re going to give someone a big injection in their bottom, give them something to look at, get them to count the number of bees on the wall - it will make the situation better. So we wanted to look at how we could bring that distraction into our scheme and to make it more of an inviting and welcoming environment.” Check out the Creative Review article to read the rest on this.
These wayfinding systems are quirky and original and work so well in their given context.

In a cruel twist of irony, no words can describe how wonderful the writing is in this shop.
It’s actually the storefront of one of HYC’s favourite creative projects, The Ministry of Stories. The MofS is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to inspire Britain’s next generation of storytellers.

I have spent too much time worrying at where I’ll be at the end of 2011, and as we have finally welcomed the new year in I have resolved to try and be more positive, or at least more relaxed.
We spent part of New Year’s Eve at the Natural History Museum, which is such a fantastic place - probably my favourite London museum, and I particularly enjoyed Oldřich Voříšek’s collection of 45,000 weevils. Because if you’re going to do something with your life, why not collect weevils. Amazing.
Because it has been snowing, and I’m home for Christmas, I felt that the obligatory walk through Richmond Park with my camera was long overdue.
I was lucky enough to have a tutorial with Jim Sutherland, of Hat-Trick this morning. The stamps they have designed for the Royal Mail have been among my favourites, beautiful visuals and some very clever ideas. So it has been brilliant to talk through my own stamp project with him, got some really useful feedback.
I’m listening to Frank Turner whilst packing up my room, ready for the journey home tomorrow. I’ve been enjoyed his new EP Rock & Roll a great deal this week.
